Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you wine… and that’s sorta the same thing. But cheap wine out of paper cups is so college! The following local hot spots have the best fine wines perfectly curated with delicious tapas and entrees to complement the wine’s unique flavours. So whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just a sewer of wine, these places are top notch!

Black Betty Burger and Wine Bar

Burgers and wine may seem like an odd pair but it’s actually a delicious combo! Our pick is the gourmet, topped with fig marmalade, quebec fois gras and arugula. Order another glass and stay awhile. At night the lower level turns into a club with a DJ and a dance floor! It’s a one-stop shop for a fun night on the town. Wednesday wine feature $5 glasses, the perfect after work pick me up!

And, an honorable mention to Wine Wednesday at Cibo who keeps the antioxidants flowing for $5 a glass. Pair that with their pizza happy hour from 3-5 and you can buy a new outfit for date night guilt free!

Go ahead, wine a little.

Home Tasting Room

The warm and inviting ambiance is all about making you feel like you’re right at home. 2.5 or 5 oz glasses are available to encourage sampling and better experience their delicious wine list. You can never go wrong with the charcuterie tasting platter or the bison tartare with with garlic aioli.

KORQ Winehouse and Kitchen

KORQ is a sexy new wine bar sitting pretty on 8th Ave and 6th street. The Korq experience starts with the wine.  They have a very approachable wine list offering wine on tap and by the glass allowing you to taste some unique labels and sample a more expensive wine without commiting to the entire bottle. Korq’s wine list is carefully selected and will rotate based on the season so you can always taste something new. The atmosphere at KORQ is sexy and sophisticated. It’s three levels ofer their own unique flavour-fine dining for romance, lounge for happy hour or late night, you’ll be in good hands on date night or when you just gotta wine.

A cool, trendy atmosphere with unique food combinations! Don’t mistake their grilled cheese for the one you used to make with kraft singles… With blue cheese, brie and aged cheddar it’s anything but elementary. Their wine list is quite small, with only a dozen labels it rotates on a monthly basis so there’s always something new to try on your next visit!

Located in the historic Dominion Bank Building Teatro is definitely a favourite! With over 1327 labels on hand, they were the winner of Avenue Magazine’s ”Best Restaurants 2013″ for best wine list. Order anything from their menu and let the staff suggest their picks for great wine pairings. They won’t lead you astray!

Vin Room

With two locations (Mission and Aspen) Vin Room has the wine scene covered. We suggest ordering a flight of the 2 oz tasters so you can try as many different labels as your heart desires. Their food is all by small plates to encourage sharing! Try one of their charcuterie & cheese platters, the eggplant chips or the lobster nachos.

Winebar Kensington

Extensive wine list, amazing food what more could you need? Keep your eyes open for their daily features like the prosciutto wrapped scallops or the bruleed fresh figs. And as a little bonus they offer 1/2 priced wine on Sunday nights!

They’ll set you up with exactly what you need for a relaxing, yet romantic evening in. See The Stay Home Date for some ready made dinner options to go with that vino!
