It’s time to shed those winter layers and tone those summer bodies! Let’s shift from our normal drinking + eating dates to an activity date! Here’s why you should get a litte sweaty together before enjoying a few cold ones on the patio.
- Play dates are fun- you get to see each others personality shine through when put in a new situation.
- Sweat dates are good for the body and great for bonding. Play together-stay together … or at least look hot together while it lasts.
Calgary is bursting with outdoor fun and equally great indoor fitness studios for you to get your sweat on.
Where to go
Run the Bow pathways and challenge your date to the Memorial stairs. Take turns going first and you’ll catch a great view on the way up and even better at the top.
Hit up the patio at Good Earth in Eau Claire or grab a Jugo and stroll around.
Bike or run your way around the gorgeous reservoir. It’s a challenging run or a nice cruise on your bike.
Take the path back to Mission for a bite at Savour or Purple Perk or stick around Heritage Park and bring out that big kid that just wants to play.
Hit the Driving range. You don’t need to be a golfer to have fun- set no expecations and go hit a bucket of balls. Ladies- don’t be afraid to ask for a little swing help… At Shagannapi you can jump on and play 9 if it’s going well. If not- ditch the clubs and take your date to a patio. Hey- you tried.
Drop in on a class
For $20 you can try something new and challenge your babe to something new. YYC Cycle, Heavens Fitness, 2110 Fitness, The Sweat Lab or The Hot Shop are great to get the blood pumpin’. If you haven’t hit up a spin class yet you’re missing out. Like a dance party on the bike with a serious calorie burn. YYC Cycle is located in Kensington- AKA date mecca. Hit a class then stroll to your nearest coffee shop or restaurant. Heavens and 2110 offer variety in their schedule- you could sign up for Kettlebells, Yoga or just hit the weights.. hey, babe- can you spot me? 😉
Switch up the scenery
Make a day of it and hit the road. In an hour you take your sweat date to the Rockies. Nakiska, Kananaskis or Canmore has some gorgeous day hikes. Pack a lunch and hit the road. Escaping as a couple gives you a little one on one quality time you can’t get in the city.
Want to stay the night?
After all the mountain fresh air you may just want to relax. Canmore is the perfect one night staycation and also boasts some fabulous dining options. Hit up Tavern 1883 for a casual pub setting with music until late.
Where to stay? Falcon Crest Lodge has been voted one of the “Best Places in the Rockies” or The Solara Resort & Spa if you’re looking for something swank and relaxing. On a budget? Try the Canmore Hotel- it’s been a haven for miners and musicians for 120 years!
Here’s the challenge. Add a little activity to your weekend routine. You’ll feel great and look hot for those steamy summer date nights.
