Among many things we love about living in Calgary, the proximity to the mountains is definitely one of our favourites. Not very many other city dwellers can drive a simple hour and hit one of the most beautiful, scenic, peaceful, relaxing, yet invigorating places on earth. After a long day of skiing or hiking why not unwind with a delicious meal at one of Banff’s best restaurants. Or maybe you’re ready to shimmy your way out of that snow suit and into your dancing shoes. Whatever the case may be, whether summer or winter, Banff is beckoning! Grab your date, hop in the car, and make it an affair to remember. After all, who doesn’t love a good road trip?

Tubing at Mt. Norquay

A play date in the mountains…tubing will have you laughing like a kid again!

The Ice Lounge at Deer Lodge

Chill out with your date in Banff’s coolest lounge!

Hiking, biking, strolling… Banff in beautiful in the sunshine too!

Banff has something to offer for everyone and is home to some of Alberta’s finest culinary teams. Here are a few of our favourite Date Night approved spots!

Aurora Nightclub

If you’re craving a weekend with a little less relaxation, and more action head to Aurora. Cozy up and grab a table with bottle service or hit the dance floor for a wild night. With a variety of events going on throughout the week and weekend, you’re always guaranteed a good time.

Balkan, The Greek Restaurant

The Balkan brings deliciously authentic flavours and a fun, festive atmosphere to the Canadian Rockies. Try their signature Arni Psito (roasted lamb) or souvlakis. Personal favourite? We can’t get enough of their spanakopita. Every Tuesday and Thursday nights are Greek night! Make a reservation for after 8 pm, and enjoy a dinner extravaganza featuring belly dancing and breaking plates. Talk about a smashing time! Opa!

The Bear Street Tavern

Who doesn’t love pizza and beer? Even people who say they don’t are obviously secretly lying. Try their unique bison pizza, made with caramelized onions, edamame beans, and fresh mozzarella. Or try the Godfather if you’re in the mood for some  old fashioned Italy goodness. Besides, after a day of hiking, skiing, or exploring the town there’s no doubt you deserve those extra carbs!

The Bison Restaurant and Terrace

Pick a mood any mood! Are you craving a beautiful outdoor patio with panoramic views of the majestic mountains? Then the Bison Restaurant is the place to be! Stay true to your Alberta roots, with beef tenderloin, or venture to the sea with olive oil poached halibut. In the mood for something more casual? Check out the Bear Street Tavern located on the lower level of the restaurant.

Brewster’s Mountain Lounge

Make a weekend out of it and shack up at Brewster’s Mountain Lounge. Conveniently held up between three Banff favourites; The Eddie Burger Bar (worth the drive in itself), The Wild Flour Bakery and The Maple Leaf Grille. This cozy hotel is sitting pretty on Banff Avenue-amongst all the action. Park your ride when you get there and take on Banff by foot-or horse drawn carriage of course.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Distinct from the majority of Banff hotels, Buffalo Mountain Lodge is just off the village- situated on the gentle slopes of Tunnel Mountain – formerly called “Sleeping Buffalo”. It’s design is elegant and hand crafted. The main lodge features a massive fieldstone fireplace, high, open beam ceilings accented with bent willow, cherry and pine furniture where a magnificent buffalo head is mounted above the fireplace. The main lodge has a cozy lobby bar and the outdoor hot tub is divine in the winter. This is the ultimate romantic getaway destination in Banff.  Pack your bags, a little mountain fresh air may be just what you need.

The Eddie Burger Bar

A casual yet hip environment, the Eddie is the place to go for an amazing burger in Banff! We’re not fans of bland and neither is The Eddie. Try the mexican style chicken burger, with jalapeño, avocado, and house made salsa served in a jalapeño cheese wrap. Or live life on the wild side with the PB&J….. AAA alberta beef, cheese, bacon, peanut butter, and lingonberry jam served on a pretzel bun. Sounds oddly divine! And don’t forget the drinks. Nothing like beer and burgers to kick off a fun weekend getaway!

Hoodoo Lounge/Nightclub

The sister to Aurora, Hoodoo offers a fun atmosphere and a great place to party in Banff! They have special events going on every Thursday night with $3 bombs. So why not tear up another town?

Maple Leaf Lounge

The Maple Leaf is staged over two levels, the first being a lounge-more casual, perfect for an apres ski, breakfast or lunch. The upstairs dining room has a cabin feel but very elegent and is a great spot for a dinner party or for a romantic date night for the books. The candlelight and the snow lit streets made for a very romantic setting in the winter. The Maple Leaf Grill is worthy of “The Celebration Date” or just a memorable escape for two.

Get things started with the bison meatballs. I had the salmon for my main -so tender and fresh with the most amazing garlic mash and prawns perched on top and chocolate souffle for dessert. Melt in your mouth goodness.

If you are stopping in for brunch make sure you try the banana bread french toast. Two favourites in one-bliss.

The Rimrock Resort and Hotel

While all these festivities sound so enticing, they’re really not complete without a place to crash at the end of the day. If you’re looking for a top notch hotel, with slightly less tourists than the Banff Springs, check out The Rimrock Resort Hotel. Located high in the mountains, the Rimrock offers breathtaking scenery, beautiful accommodations, pool, hot tub, and spa for the perfect weekend getaway. Remember, you don’t need to board a plane for an ultimate escape!

Wild Flower Bakery Café

They’re in it for the dough! If you love warm, fresh,  homemade bread then be sure to check our the Wild Flour. Try the wholewheat flaxseed waffles for breakfast, or one of their signature sandwiches like the trio (genoa salami, swiss salami, prosciutto) or Portabello mushroom melt. They offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options to ensure there is something for everyone!
