Frank Sinatra said it best “Alcohol may be man’s worst enemy, but the Bible says to love your enemy.” We couldn’t agree more Franky! And what better way to kick off your date then with a little cocktail hour? Whether you’re grabbing a quick drink before dinner or lingering into the wee hours of the night, we know where to grab the best drinks in Calgary! Cocktails are a fine art and these places are museum worthy.
Anejo is shaking up some killer cocktails on 4th street. Their margaritas are unbeatable-chili coconut, strawberry rhubarb, mango, ginger, guava or classic-you’ll be saying “uno mas” in no time. Some other libations-try the Tormenta Negra, a spin on a classic dark & stormy but made better…with tequila, obviously. Or, the owners go-to, El Jefe ( the boss) the-best-cocktail-ever.
Bar C Food + Drink
There is something for everyone on this list- including ‘The No Name’…yet. It’s a no muss, no fuss, no nonsense kind of drink. My personal favourites are the ‘Hopflower Shrub’ and ‘The New Old Fashioned’.
The Hopflower is light and fresh made with bourbon and sweet wine bubbled with a touch of ginger beer. These could get you into trouble….the real good kind.
The New Old Fashioned has all the magic of it’s traditional counterpart with subtle scotch, caramel and orange flavours. Like a warm hug with a killer buzz to follow.
You also find a few other gems on the list like ‘Sparkle Donkey’, ‘ The Dazzling Acrobatic Feat of Mr. S.T. Gumphision’ (which I am told has medicinal properties-so you actually get healthier by drinking it), and ‘Mojitolatoialato-aia’. No wonder they were stumped with naming the last one-how do you follow up with those?
Bar C is a great spot for a dinner party with friends, an intimate date night for two or an adventure through the cocktail list!
Milk Tiger Lounge
A cozy little place with delicious old school cocktails, Milk Tiger is definitely worth a visit. Some of their creations are crazy creative and unique. You can’t go wrong with some of their classic cocktails like a Manhattan or Tom Collins. Milk Tiger is a tiny hot spot on 4th Street-blink and you’ll miss it. Great for late nights and hot dates.
Model Milk is set in Calgary’s historic dairy building on 17th avenue. Exposed brick, a delicious menu and fun cocktails make it a must go! We especially like the Bubbles for your Troubles made with aperol, cointreau and grapefruit marmalade. Or channel your inner intellect with the Hemingway Daiquiri made with havana club rum, grapefruit and lime juice. The black Manhatten is no longer on the menu-but smile pretty and they may make it for you!
Ox & Angela
A spanish inspired restaurant, Ox & Angela is the perfect place to visit for drinks and tapas. Try the O&A Collins or the delicious trés julep with mint and pomegranate. If you are on a date-order his & hers drinks. The Ox for him & The Angela for the lady.
Raw Bar at Hotel Arts
Raw Bar is ultra sexy. Go for dinner or just cocktails. Their cocktail program is impressive and the bartenders at Raw knowall the tricks of the trade. Their drinks are made with the freshest ingredients, premium liquors and unique elixirs so they change on a pretty regular basis. In the summer take your cocktails outside and enjoy the poolside patio!
A beautiful space with equally enjoyable food and cocktails. Taste’s drink list is specially curated by Jesse Willis, owner of Vine Arts Wine and Spirits- he knows a few things. Jesse launches a new list every 60 days with different themes of deliciousness. Taste won our heart with their summer cocktail; the Floody McNenshie and has kept us going back ever since.
