It’s Just Coffee:
If you’re unsure about your latest Tinder triumph or you’re just really into coffee, because who isn’t, make it a coffee date and keep it casual. Here are some faves.
Analog is serving up Fratello Coffee on 17th Ave. in a cool, lively space. Located on 17th, it’s a great spot for a first date whether or not you get a seat.
Rosso Coffee Roasters
Rosso has grown to four locations within Calgary, and it’s for good reason. The quality of Rosso’s products, from house roasted beans, to specialty hand crafted coffees, are incomparable to major chains. This local company is representing Calgary’s coffee scene right.
Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar
Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar is not like the others. At Gravity, you’re welcomed into an ambiance which compliments a high-end coffee and a small bite, or a bottle of wine and a cheese platter. Make the date for Friday or Saturday evening, and enjoy live acoustic music.
Higher Ground Cafe was made for the coffee date – It’s more that your average coffee shop. Plenty of tables, a fireplace, a food menu that boasts hot breakfast and lunch options, sweet treats, and 100% organic & fair trade espresso make this a great meeting space. They also serve wine and beer for those late night dates.
Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters
Phil & Sebastian is definitely one of those local favourites that never disappoints. With six locations around the city, and incredible coffee, Phil & Seb makes a great first date.
Purple Perk is a Mission’s local coffee shop with more than just coffee and treats. Purple Perk serves up Hot breakfast, lunch, and diner in an inviting community environment, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Evening Eats and Drinks:
Evening eats and drinks is a great option for a first date to take the edge off. It’s something to sip, and something to do when you’re getting to know your new conquest. We’ve found a few casual spots that you’ll love.
Blanco is an incredibly welcome addition to the 17th Ave roster, with food and cocktails that mirrors Anejo’s quality and and vibe. They’ve got a daily halfy-hour from 3-5, and speedy burritos to go if you and your date are on the run. If not, the chill dining room is ideal for a date of margaritas and great times.
Come for the Pizza, and stay for the cocktails and wine. Cibo has an incredible $5 Pizza happy hour on weekdays, and half-price late night pizza happy hour at the end of each day. With daily specials and a fantastic wine and cocktail list, Cibo makes a great date.
Without Papers Pizza
Without Papers Pizza is a definite favourite when it comes to the pizza date. These made-from-scratch slices of heaven are always coupled with great service and an upbeat, social atmosphere. You can’t go wrong with a glass of House Red Grenache, and a Hawaiian 5-0.
Midtown Kitchen & Bar
Midtown is a perfect spot for casual food and drinks. Watch the game, enjoy local brews, and get together for great convo.
