“Unapologetically bold,” Cleaver is anything but your average gastropub.  Tucked onto 17th Ave, a step inside it proves to be an unforgettable experience. Cleaver is the brain child of Barbara Spain and Alex Rivera, who were drawn to Calgary from Dublin and felt that Cleaver was a perfect compliment to the rising culinary scene in our booming city.

The food at Cleaver is “modern Irish” and has small tapas and share plates or larger meat platters designed to share like the “Cock n’ Bull”. We suggest starting with the truffle egg toast, an elevated ‘cheese”the best comfort food, ever”Cleaver has serious cocktail game and serves a mean weekend brunch. The room has a cozy yet industrial feel to it- a perfect setting for an intimate gathering of friends or a cocktail date. We vote Cleaver as being “man friendly” with hearty, meaty dishes and bold cocktails like “Slap yo Mama” or the off menu smoked old fashioned- hand crafted in front of your eyes with smoke infused Bourbon over a smoked slab of oak.

If stopping by for a visit, we suggest making a reservation as this place is always bustling. Spontaneous pop ins are encouraged too – the bar is open late!
