Hello summer, we’ve been waiting for you. Our favourite time of the year is here once again and we are so excited to hit up those patios and get our sun-kissed tans on. Here are some awesome events happening this month in Calgary that will make sure your summer starts off right.
1. Way Out West Fest
June 1st – June 3rd at various times
Embrace your West with this three-day festival. These events are inspired by our rich Western heritage – think of it as a great mash-up of the past and present. Learn the art of roping at Smithbilt Hats while you sip on some cold brews from Cold Garden, learn how to make a delectable cocktail creation at Eau Claire Distillery, enjoy an art auction and dinner at the Deane House and paint a cow skull at Cody & Sioux. Whatever your mood, they’ve got something for everyone to enjoy.
2. Little Modern Market – Spring Edition
June 2nd from 930am-330pm

Little Modern Market returns for its spring edition on June 2nd. Come shop from over 80 of your favourite local vendors. Vendors include Oxeye Floral Co., Jill Weston, Jacob Grace Designs, Wylo + Co, Friday Sock Co., Pretty Sweet, The Gut Lab, Words + Co, Wrinkle + Crease, Bark YYC and so many more.
3. Market Collective x Best of Calgary: Jewelry Pop-Up
June 2nd from 11am-4pm

In celebration of being voted the ‘best place to find cool jewelry’ by Best of Calgary 2018, Market Collective will be hosting a special jewelry pop-up shop outside Plant on June 2nd. Come browse unique pieces from some incredible local jewelry makers and enjoy a talented artist line up. The event is free and all ages are welcome.
4. Calgary Sneaker Swap
June 2nd from 12pm-5pm

Sneaker Swap is a one day marketplace for sneaker fanatics to share secrets of buying, selling, trading, collecting, and keeping sneakers fresh. Expect vendors selling sneakers, clothing, and art (think Market Collective meets Sneakers), talks, and live music. The heart and soul of the event is the trading floor. Attendees are encouraged to bring sneakers to sell and trade throughout the day.
5. Steel Dreamz
June 2nd from 10am-2pm

It’s time for the second annual Charlesglen Toyota Steel Dreamz Show ‘n’ Shine. Bring your date down for a day of fun. Entry is free and includes tunes from a live DJ and free snacks on site. Come check out the amazing vintage & restored vehicles, as well as the most tricked out rides in Calgary.
6. Go for a Float with The Paddle Station
Grab your bae to explore Calgary’s majestic Bow River. Whether you’re looking for an exciting outdoor adventure or simply want to lounge and relax, The Paddle Station has got what you need. The process is easy – book a float online and head to Shouldice Park to start your journey. They’ll have all your safety gear and equipment waiting for you so that you can enjoy a hassle-free experience while bonding with your bae.
7. The 4th Street Lilac Festival

Lilacfest kicks off Calgary’s vibrant festival season. Shake off the winter blues, get off your couches and bring your date to 4th Street. There will be live entertainment from over 30 performers, 500+ amazing local vendors and quality entertainment to keep you entertained all day long.
8. Customer Appreciation Summer Kick-Off Sale

Whether you’re a surf enthusiast or you’re searching for the perfect Father’s Day gift for Dad, Seca Surf & Marine has got you covered. 9. Friends Trivia Night

10. Cibo Centre Street Grand Opening

Cibo is heading north with a second location this month. Chef Justin Lail will be leading the team and fans of the popular restaurant will be able to enjoy a similar menu at both locations. Their focus has always been on using fresh local ingredients with an Italian flare and this location promises to be more of the same. 11. Inglewood Night Market

The Inglewood Night Market is back and better than ever this year. Happening every second Friday in the summer, this modern day market hosts over 50 local vendors selling unique goodies ranging from handmade crafts to vintage clothing, antiques and collectibles. There will also be food trucks, live entertainment and a plethora of other fun things to check out, making this your perfect Friday date night spot.
12. Michael Bernard Fitzgerald

13. RNDSQR Sales Centre Launch

Explore TELUS Spark after hours for Adults Only Night on June 14th. You’ll have free reign in their galleries, a fully licensed bar to get your drink on and dance jams to keep your good mood going all night long. This month, they’ll be exploring the science behind cocktails. Learn about the special combination of science and art that goes into creating delicious cocktail creations and dive deeper into the science of cocktails, both the aromatic and the alcoholic.
17. Beer, Barbecue and Butchery

Sunterra is celebrating Pork Month with special classes in their social kitchen. On June 16th and 23rd, they’ll be hosting Beer, Barbecue and Butchery. This tasty class includes one free drink and all your favourite Sunterra Farms pork dishes like red oak bacon caesar salad, slow cooked pork belly with drip pan potatoes, chipotle and fennel ribs and pork chops. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it. In case you can’t make it to that one, have no fear – they host several classes a month and will have a special Father’s Day lunch and Bacon Bits class for your little ones on June 30.

22. Pops in the Park

23. TEDxYYC: Adjacent Possible

For the ninth year in a row, TEDxYYC is hosting a can’t miss event, bringing the very best to the stage. 27. Alberta Spotlight: Nuela Charles with Ruben Young

Her opening act, Ruben Young, is a local Calgary artist well-loved for his electro-R&B vibes, his catchy singles, and his opening acts for international artists like The Chainsmokers and Akon. Theatre Calgary will be returning to Prince’s Island Park starting June 29th with the annual Shakespeare by the Bow event. This pay-what-you-can production will star Alberta’s emerging artists as they reenact Shakespeare’s first comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona. 30. 50th Anniversary Block Party

The Calgary Tower is hosting a 1960’s themed block party on June 30th.
