#CouplesofYYC: 21 Dates Edition

We scrolled your Instagram feeds diligently looking for your next date post, oohed and aahed at all your cute selfies and celebrated you checking off all those dates.

Calgary – We loved watching you rekindle the romance with the city through our magical little black book; aka. the #21Dates Passport. We scrolled your Instagram feeds diligently looking for your next date post, oohed and aahed at all your cute selfies and celebrated you checking off all those dates.

We couldn’t be happier with the results – that’s why we caught up with some of our winners to talk to them about their #21Dates experience. Here’s what they had to say.

Kylie and Wes

How long have you been together?

It’s been a year and a half.

How do you usually spend your date nights?

Our activities vary, good food and treats are typically involved.  We like mellow nights in with a puzzle as well as hosting games nights and dinners.  For going out we like to try new things, which is why the passport was so fun!

Whose idea was it to purchase the passport? (His or hers)

We actually both got them for each other as stocking stuffers, Wes got his first and had to play along like he didn’t already know what it was until I opened mine.  We ended up giving the bonus one away to my brother.

How did the passport change your relationship as a couple?

It made our dates very organized; it took the spontaneity pressure off! It pushed us to try even more new things together.

How did the passport change your relationship with the city?

Wes is still new to Calgary and very new to downtown living so he got a great education in all things fun in YYC.  For me it pushed me to go outside of the boundaries of downtown, to explore more possible activities.

What was your favourite date out of the 21 Dates?

We enjoyed Wild Rose the best, we had been before but never knew about their Monday Trivia nights which are a blast!

What advice would you give to other couples about their dating life?

Always be willing to try something new, and don’t let busy schedules get in the way – keep dating!

Caitlin and Kevin

How long have you been together?

We’ve been together for about 5 years, and just got married last summer.

How do you usually spend your date nights?

Before the passport, we often stayed in and cooked together at home. When finding something decent to watch together on Netflix became a struggle, we choose to check out Calgary’s selection of restaurants and pubs.

Whose idea was it to purchase the passport? (His or hers)

It was actually inspired by a friend of Cait’s- First-place winner Kylie!

How did the passport change your relationship as a couple?

The passport gave us a chance to be more adventurous as a couple. We tried a few things that we never would have done otherwise (ie. Bolder Climbing for Her, Theatre Junction for Him).

How did the passport change your relationship with the city?

We both really loved that the passport got us out of the house and exploring our city in the dread of winter. Even though we are both born and raised Calgarians, there were a few places that we haven’t yet heard of or checked out until the Passport came along. We also typically don’t go out on weeknights, so it was a good change of pace to our weekly routine.

What was your favourite date out of the 21 Dates?

Hers – I really loved Rodney’s Oyster House for the oyster shucking experience. I learned a ton, loved the staff and atmosphere and really enjoyed my first-ever oysters!

His – We celebrated Valentine’s Day at Theatre Calgary’s Twelfth Night. It was a great production, and very entertaining!

What advice would you give to other couples about their dating life?

Stretch yourself outside of your typical routine and try things that are new to both of you. Calgary has so many fun and interesting things to offer, so take the time to explore and find things that you wouldn’t normally do.

Have FOMO? Fear not – we’re dropping our Summer edition of the passport soon so you’ll definitely want to pick one up. Stay tuned to our Instagram @datenightyyc for all the details as they become available.
