A dreamy and innovative theatrical experience penned by Oscar-nominated writer Evelyne de la Chenelière (Monsieur Lazhar, 2011) based on Virginia Woolf’s 1927 novel To The Lighthouse. Incorporating live music, poetic text and striking visuals, To The Light is a profoundly moving performance that explores the friendship between two women who are at once drawn together and torn apart by the roles they have embraced as women in the early 20th century, one a mother and society wife, the other an ambitious but struggling career woman.

Alberta Ballet's internationally acclaimed portrayal of a dark and decadent French aristocracy will be on stage just in time for Halloween.

 

 An infamous sexual thriller was originally created for The National Norwegian Ballet. Jean Grand-Maitre's notorious balletic incarnation will feature Alberta Ballet's powerful athletic dancers that will give provocative life to Choderlos de LaClos' legendary book. Alberta Ballet is thrilled to announce that One Yellow Rabbit's Denise Clarke O.C. will perform the role of La Marquise de Merteuil, one of French literature's most evil and infamous female roles. This balletic interpretation successfully fuses operatic grandeur, period theatre, dance, avant-guard sound design and an extraordinary re-creation of the lavish costuming from this period.

DJs will be spinning records and the bar will be open so there's no better way to spend your Thursday night! You'll also be able to shop our local marketplace while sipping and snacking the night away. Expect a collision of food, music, art and a showcase of Calgary's local makers.

Sweat for a cause on October 19th with the Revolution Ride to Defeat Diabetes.

This is an exciting stationary bike relay event, where teams of 5 riders fundraise $125 each to help with JDRF's mission of helping those living with T1D achieve healthier, easier, and safer lives.

Teams take turns spinning for 7 minutes in an electrifying "mini spin class" led by YYC Cycle Motivators. 

The day of the event riders are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to their heat in order to register, pick up shoes and becoming familiar with the bikes. Heats will run at 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 and 1:30pm and last 45 minutes.

Prizes will be given out to Top Fundraising Team, Top Fundraising Individual, Best Team Costume and Most Team

Dream, Girl is built with an intention of creating an experience that empowers education, connection and positive affirmations on what it means to be a woman. Join us for light libations, a screening of the documentary and impactful discussions led by some very inspiring women. Dream, Girl is presented in partnership with Elevated HR. Proceeds of the event are being donated to WINS

Panelists:

Alice Reimer is a successful tech entrepreneur and dedicated community mentor and leader. She co-founded Calgary-based Evoco, leading the innovative software firm from initial concept through to a 2012 acquisition. Evoco's technology became the standard construction management system for global retailers including Home Depot, Walmart and Luxottica. Most recently, Alice was the CEO of Chaordix, a pioneering software leader in the crowdsourcing and open innovation space, with global clients including LEGO, Procter & Gamble, KPMG and IBM.

Michelle Berg is the Leading Lady of Elevated – an organization that helps attract, develop and retain top talent by building employee experiences that matter. In 2015 she won the Notable Award in Canada for Entrepreneurship. In 2016, she was selected as one of twenty top leaders in Calgary by Business in Calgary magazine as well as headed up the HR Team of the Year from the Human Resources Institute of Alberta. Just recently she was named a finalist for Woman of Inspiration by Canadian Business Chicks.

Vera Ilnyckyj is the Marketing Manager for Women in Need Society, an organization that helps women and their families help themselves. Vera has over 20 years’ experience in all aspects of marketing including strategic planning, branding, advertising, communications and brand stewardship and she is also a life coach, using her experience to support her clients to facilitate learning and personal growth, helping them set and achieve goals and gaining a clear sense of purpose and direction. Vera is also on the Board of Directors with Servants Anonymous Society, an organization that helps women and girls who have been sexually exploited.

Jill Drader is a mentor, speaker and consultant. Her company Steel Toe Stiletto was inspired from her journey transitioning out of teaching post-secondary English into the skilled trades and became a tile setting apprentice. Tiling in steel toes by day and teaching in stilettos at night. Jill is an educator and consultant to organizations, educational institutes, and private businesses associated with the skilled trades. As a curriculum developer and subject matter expert, she has worked on various projects with Junior Achievement over the past three years. As a speaker she speak with businesses and organizations on gender in the workplace, her stories and experiences through apprenticeship to Journeyman status, leadership, entrepreneurship, her Top 40 under 40 award, Women in Work Boots, and strategy workshops.
