From Kanye West's hospitalization to Ellen receiving the Medal of Freedom, here's what everybody's talking about this week.
1. Kanye West hospitalized
Yeezy was hospitalized in LA on Monday for exhaustion following unusual behaviour like ranting against Jay Z and Bey and endorsing Donald Trump. He had been dealing with sleep deprivation, a very busy tour schedule and the added stress of Kimmy K's Paris heist last month – who wouldn't want a little rest? Unfortunately for all his fans out there, he canceled the remaining 21 shows of the Saint Pablo tour. Rest up, 'Ye.
2. Vegas Golden Knights
The NHL welcomed the newest team into their family, the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Owner Bill Foley and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman revealed the name, logo and colours to fans on Tuesday - "The knight never gives up, never gives in, always advances, never retreats. And that is what our team is going to be." Foley paid a mere $500 million for the 31st NHL franchise that you can catch at the south end of the strip.
3. Ellen receives Medal of Freedom
On Tuesday, Ellen DeGeneres was awarded the highest civilian honour given by The White House, the Medal of Freedom. President Barack Obama choked up when presenting the comedian with the medal, and Ellen herself was just as emotional. The president praised her for her courage over the years stating, “It's easy to forget now, when we've come so far ... just how much courage was required for Ellen to come out on the most public of stages almost 20 years ago," adding, "What an incredible burden that was to bear — to risk your career like that — people don't do that very often. And then, to have the hopes of millions on your shoulders."
The speaker noted, “At pivotal moments, her courage and candor helped change the hearts and minds of millions of Americans, accelerating our nation’s constant drive toward equality and acceptance for all. Again and again, Ellen DeGeneres has shown us that a single individual can make the world a more fun, more open and more loving place, so long as we just keep swimming.”
We couldn’t agree more. You can check out the full video for yourself here. We will warn you though – it will give you ALL the feels.
4. Calgary Stampeders heading to the Grey Cup
Grab your nachos and chicken wings and get ready to cheer on our hometown Stampeders this Sunday for the Grey Cup. After crushing the BC Lions on Sunday, they are up against the Ottawa Redblacks for the CFL trophy. The Redblacks lost last year to Edmonton, and are ready to battle again for the cup. The odds are looking good for the Stampeders, but don't count your cups before you have them. May the odds be ever in their favour.
5. Instagram's new feature
If Snapchat could send an emoji it would be the monkey covering its eyes thinking about how they thought they could compete with Instagram. Insta just announced it's releasing a new update that allows you to send disappearing videos and messages. You'll be able to send messages and media that disappear after the receiver has opened it. On top of that, you'll be able to see when it is opened and if the person took a screen shot...Same same but different. You will also be able to live stream video, kind of like Facebook.
